Improving the Business-enabling Environment of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) in Jordan
PMCG is part of the USAID Economic Reform Activity team that is implementing a project to enhance the business-enabling environment of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ).
Specifically, the objectives of the projects include assessing the regulatory framework governing the ASEZ business-enabling environment and providing support to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to address priority reform areas. The USAID Economic Reform activity is developing an action plan to implement reforms that will facilitate business activity and attract investments to the ASEZ.
Field Mission to the ASEZ in Jordan
Relatedly, to identify priority reform areas, PMCG’s senior consultants, Mr. Mikheil Janelidze and Ms. Nino Javakhadze, along with the USAID Economic Reform Activity team, screened the ASEZ’s regulatory framework and conducted a field mission. Furthermore, the selected reform areas were presented to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and private sector representatives.
Thereafter, the USAID Economic Reform Activity, with PMCG, organized a workshop on enhancing the business-enabling environment and streamlining ASEZ regulations and processes to attract investment.
Consequently, the USAID Economic Reform Activity team, including PMCG, will develop a plan for legislative reforms and procedures regarding registration, licensing, contract regulation, and the business environment.
Reforms Crucial to Business in the ASEZ and Jordan
Significantly, HE ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nayef Al-Fayez stressed the importance of continued collaboration with the USAID Economic Reform Activity. Notably, he asserted that improving and strengthening business systems would boost the investment environment and service recipients would benefit.
Encouragingly, PMCG was praised for sharing its experience and knowledge to improve procedures and the investment journey.
The project is being implemented under the USAID Economic Reform Activity, wherein PMCG is one of eight subcontractors to Chemonics International. The USAID Economic Reform Activity is supporting the Government of Jordan to prioritize, implement, and sustain economic reforms to help advance the country’s economic reform agenda.
