3.08.2023

On July 17-21, PMC Research, with EU support, conducted training sessions on foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction for representatives of local governments of Oni municipality. The training was part of the EU-funded “Economic Development of Oni Municipality via Business Clusters Creation and Investment Attraction” project. The training aimed to improve the capacities of local officials in making the municipality more visible and attractive to potential investors.

Furthermore, the EU-funded training was designed to strengthen the capacities of the employees of the Mayor’s Office and Sakrebulo of Oni Municipality. In addition, the Governor’s Administration of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Region was also a beneficiary. Pertinently, the sessions covered the following critical topics: Foreign Direct Investment and Factors Affecting their Attraction; Creation of an Investment Image at Regional and Local Levels; Georgia’s Investment Policy; Arrangement of Visits of Potential Investors; Investment Website; Investment Aftercare Services; Business Linkages between Foreign Companies and Local SMEs; and Core Elements of Municipal Investment Strategies.

Meanwhile, the EU-funded training also incorporated hands-on learning through practical assignments. In particular, these allowed participants to engage actively in activities focused on various aspects of investment attraction. Significantly, the practical exercises emphasised arranging potential investor visits and developing a structure for the investment website. At the same time, they sought to strengthen business linkages and devise a comprehensive municipal FDI strategy.

The training was attended by 20 participants, who gained theoretical and practical knowledge on FDI attraction at regional and municipal levels. In the next stage, the project will create an investment website for Oni municipality.

The project “Economic Development of Oni Municipality via Business Clusters Creation and Investment Attraction” is being implemented under the European Union (EU) initiative “Mayors for Economic Growth” and aims to increase the economic competitiveness of Oni Municipality by creating and developing business clusters and making it more visible and attractive for potential investors. The project’s anticipated impact is an improvement in the social and economic conditions in the Oni Municipality expressed in the operation of more competitive MSMEs, as well as increased employment and investments.
