Supporting Georgia’s Metrology Development

8.07.2026

PMCG presented the final results of its project supporting the Georgian National Agency for Standards and Metrology (GeoSTM). The event included the presentation of the Policy Brief “Role of GeoSTM in Economic Development.” It brought together the audience to discuss how a strong national metrology system can support Georgia’s economic growth and competitiveness.

PMCG developed the Policy Brief, and the company’s Economic Policy Sector Lead, Nino Javakhadze, presented it. The brief examines the role of metrology in economic development. It draws on stakeholder consultations, international benchmarking, and economic analysis. In addition, it highlights the need for steady investment in metrology. It also underlines stronger cooperation between public and private stakeholders. Finally, the brief points to the need for a clear long-term vision for the national metrology system.

The event also featured GeoSTM’s presentation of its Metrology Strategy 2026-2036. This strategy outlines the agency’s long-term development priorities.

Following the presentations, participants joined a panel discussion on “Unlocking Stakeholder Benefits Through Strategic Development of a Sustainable Metrology System.” PMCG’s Economic Policy Sector Lead, Nino Javakhadze, moderated the discussion. During the session, participants explored the future roles of public and private actors within the national metrology system. They focused on how calibration and other metrology services can be delivered efficiently. The discussion also examined how public institutions and private sector providers can complement each other.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded this policy brief. The funding came under a bilateral cooperation project implemented by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). As part of the project, PMCG prepared the Policy Brief through policy analysis, stakeholder consultations, international benchmarking, and evidence-based recommendations.
