Field Mission Advances Agricultural Value Chains in Armenia
PMCG is implementing the Strengthening Agricultural Value Chains in Armenia. Commissioned by the Environmental Project Implementation Unit (EPIU) under the Ministry of Environment of Armenia, the project focuses on improving efficiency, resilience, and inclusiveness. In particular, it promotes stronger participation by women and youth across targeted communities.
Currently, PMCG works closely with EPIU across all project activities. The team conducts value chain mapping and market analysis to identify gaps and opportunities. In addition, PMCG carries out gender and social assessments to ensure inclusive outcomes. Based on these results, the team develops improvement strategies and practical business plans. All approaches follow international best practices.
During the initial phase, the PMCG team conducted a field mission to Armenia from 26 to 31 October. As part of this mission, the team visited villages in Sisian Municipality, including Tsghuk, Sarnakunk, Spandaryan, and Gorayk. Meanwhile, additional meetings took place in Tumanyan Municipality, covering Dsegh, Chkalov, Karinj, Marts, Shamut, Atan, Lorut, and Ahnidzor.
Throughout the visits, the team met with farmers, local coordinators, and municipal representatives. First, discussions focused on agricultural practices. Next, participants reviewed access to technologies and inputs. They also examined existing support programs and sales channels. Finally, they discussed key challenges. During the mission, the team also attended the distribution of agricultural technologies to project beneficiaries.
Following the fieldwork, PMCG and the National Value Chain Expert will prioritize selected agricultural value chains in Armenia. As a result, the team will conduct deeper analysis in the next phase. Meanwhile, preparations for the upcoming mission to Armenia are already underway.
Next Steps
In the coming months, PMCG will finalize value chain assessments. At the same time, the team will complete gender and social analysis reports. Next, PMCG will develop detailed improvement plans and effectiveness evaluation tools. In addition, the team will prepare four business plans. Two of these will focus on women-led value chains.
Through this work, PMCG continues to support agricultural development in Armenia. As a result, local livelihoods will strengthen and market access will improve. Ultimately, the project contributes to long-term economic resilience in rural communities.
