Fostering Circular Resource Management Discussion at USAID Local Governance Program Dialogue Event
As part of the USAID Local Governance Program, the “Circular Resource Management at the Local Level” regional multi-sectoral dialogue was held in Tbilisi, Georgia on October 3-4.
The event brought together approximately 50 representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs), and academia from the target municipalities of Batumi, Kutaisi, Marneuli, Poti, and Rustavi.
The main goal of the dialogue was to foster collaboration between the gathered parties and their organizations in developing policies promoting private sector engagement in the circular resource management value chain.
PMCG, as a subcontractor of Tetra Tech ARD, is contributing to the USAID Local Governance Program by providing technical assistance to strengthen local governance in Georgia. Crucially, the aim of doing so is to enhance public administration, improve accountability, and ensure that local governments are more responsive to citizens’ needs.
Presenting Findings of Diagnostic Study on Circular Resource Management
At the event, PMCG’s Roni Kvatchadze, Circular Economy Expert in the Local Governance Program, presented the findings of a diagnostic study, outlining the key challenges related to circular resource management in the aforementioned target municipalities.
Thereafter, thematic discussions ensued among the private sector, CSO, and academia attendees, who identified and prioritized obstacles and proposed potential solutions thereto.
Kvatchadze, with Natia Katsiashvili, Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) Expert in the Local Governance Program, also moderated a variety of discussions on challenges and issues to be addressed at municipal and national levels, as well as areas requiring support from the donor community.
In addition, the event featured a brainstorming session on future activities, where participants talked about opportunities for inter-municipal cooperation in the circular resource management value chain, as well as for the private sector to develop joint advocacy and initiate public-private dialogue on highlighted policy challenges.
The event was organized under the “Catalyzing Local Economic Policy Advocacy: Bridging Gaps for Inclusive Value Chain Development” project, supported and implemented by the USAID Local Governance Program.
