PMC Research is working on applied research entitled “Labor Migration from Georgia and Private Employment Agencies in Georgia” aiming to examine the work of employment agencies.
Private employment agencies are the leading mediators for Georgian migrants seeking employment abroad. However, the Government of Georgia has very limited mechanisms when it comes to obtaining statistical data on labor migration facilitated by these agencies or monitoring their activities.
The main objective of our research is to examine the work of employment agencies operating in Georgia with an emphasis on the services provided to job-seekers and employers, to study the contractual obligations taken by different parties, and to inspect the protection of labor rights in the migration process.
More specifically, in order to attain our goals, we will undertake the following activities:
- Conduct a desk review;
- Conduct interviews with government agencies and international organizations;
- Carry out interviews with employment agencies in Tbilisi and regions; and
- Conduct interviews with labor migrants already employed or seeking employment abroad.
As a result of this research, we will reveal the trends and characteristics of labor migration facilitated by employment agencies in Georgia and produce recommendations for the better protection of citizens’ rights in the migration process as well as better alignment of labor migration trends with the developmental needs of Georgia.
