DAI, the implementer of the USAID-funded SHAHAR project, has awarded the Municipal Governance Study Tour project contract to PMCG.
The objective of the tour to Georgia is to build the capacity of the Afghan Deputy Ministry of Municipalities/Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), provincial municipalities, and Municipal Advisory Boards (MABs) to design and implement legal, regulatory, and institutional frameworks as well as cost-effective service delivery mechanisms for Afghanistan’s rapid urbanization.
PMCG’s main responsibilities include designing and coordinating the study tour program schedule which includes the participation of the Afghan delegation in meetings with high-level officials of key Georgian government institutions, non-governmental agencies, municipal associations, and public-private partnership agencies as well as attending trainings and site visits.
The tour includes but is not limited to the following:
- Arranging meetings with senior officials of relevant departments of Tbilisi City Hall;
- Organizing visits and working sessions with local government agencies (e.g. Gldani District Administration), and with the Tbilisi Business Accelerator office and Spark;
- Conducting training sessions with presentations given by Hague Academy trainers on peace, gender, and stability;
- Carefully selecting topics relevant to the participants’ day-to-day work and activities; and
- Scheduling meetings and visits to public and private institutions.
As a result of the tour, the participants become more familiar with municipal policies, and they can put the knowledge obtained into practice in their home country.
