PMCG is implementing a new research project to support green transformation in Georgia under the EU-funded initiative “GREEN: Promoting Global Sustainability and Environmental Protection.” The Institute for Innovation and Change (IIC) leads the initiative in partnership with the Institute for Democracy and the Association Athinati. Through this collaboration, the partners aim to accelerate sustainable development and promote responsible economic transformation in Georgia.
The project supports Georgia’s transition to a more sustainable and resilient economy. It promotes the adoption of green and responsible business practices across key sectors. PMCG will focus on small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the agricultural and tourism sectors. The research will cover Adjara, Guria, and Samegrelo, where SMEs play a critical role in regional growth and employment.
Research Supporting Green Transformation in Georgia
To advance green transformation in Georgia, PMCG will conduct a comprehensive study to identify human capital skills and competency gaps that limit the adoption of green practices. The team will assess workforce capabilities and evaluate whether current skills match emerging sustainability requirements. In parallel, the research will examine businesses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practical experience related to sustainability.
The study will address key areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy use, circular economy approaches, waste management, resource efficiency, and environmental compliance. By covering these dimensions, PMCG will develop a clear understanding of the barriers and opportunities shaping green transformation in Georgia, particularly in the target regions.
PMCG will apply a rigorous mixed-methods research design to generate evidence supporting green transformation in Georgia. The team will conduct structured interviews and focus group discussions. This approach will ensure both quantitative depth and qualitative insight. The research findings will translate into practical, evidence-based recommendations that directly inform policy and training design.
Expected Impact
The project will support the development of targeted education and training programs aligned with market needs. By aligning workforce skills with the demands of green transformation in Georgia, the initiative will reduce labor market mismatches and strengthen human capital development.
At the same time, the research will enhance the capacity of local businesses to implement sustainable practices. These improvements will increase competitiveness, strengthen resilience, and improve environmental performance across Western Georgia.
