Our Research on Status of SME Finance in Georgia Published by Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI)

24.07.2019

The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) recently included PMC Research’s paper “Leveraging Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Finance Through Value Chains in Georgia” in its working papers.

The main objective of the study was to examine the challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Georgia in terms of access to finance and their involvement in global value chains. The research was also aimed at analyzing the role of SMEs in Georgia’s economy, their funding, the status of financial inclusion for them, and the level of financial literacy and skills of SME entrepreneurs.

As a result of the research, we identified barriers to SME finance in Georgia and proposed policy recommendations and immediate actions with regard to existing government policies.

“An increased level of financial literacy among Georgian SMEs would enable them to better utilize the support offered to them by international organizations and the Georgian government, and to gain easier access to loans from financial institutions,” said Giorgi Khishtovani, Director at PMC Research.

The research was conducted as part of a project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) and the CAREC Institute (CI).
