The project is designed to support the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia (MoESCS) in the implementation of Short-Cycle Educational Programs (SCEPs) in the Georgian education system.

The main goal of the project is to develop an alternative educational path through the implementation of SCEPs providing a bridge between the fifth and sixth levels of education. After completing SCEPs, students will be able to continue their studies in bachelor’s programs as the VET programs will be linked to higher education programs and will create rewarding career development paths for individuals.

Moreover, the project will also contribute to addressing the currently limited stakeholder engagement in VET activities, will increase the quality and relevance of professional education and training, will expand access to training opportunities, and will ensure better coordination between various stakeholders.

PMCG under the UK’s Good Governance Fund (GGF), will carry out the following activities:

  • Design a new credit recognition system;
  • Create a new hybrid financing model combining elements of VET and higher education financing;
  • Introduce a new admissions model;
  • Determine the relevant grading system for SCEPs and associate degrees; and
  • Implement SCEPs in higher education institutions (HEIs).

Ultimately, the project seeks to integrate VET programs into traditional education pathways, to prepare students for the labor market, and to tackle unemployment challenges.
