Conducting a Country Study on Labor Migration Management

PMC Research Center recently started working on new research under the project “Sustainable and Socially Acceptable Labour Migration Management” being implemented by the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) along with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Georgia, Germany, Kosovo, and Vietnam, and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

We are conducting a country study of Georgia to analyze a bilateral agreement on seasonal employment in agriculture between Georgia and Germany. In particular, the study aims to assess the selected labor migration scheme from the perspectives of different stakeholders, and to address the perceptions of labor migration in the country as well as the role of skills development.
We will also identify costs and benefits throughout the migration process, assess the potential of vocational education and training (VET), and examine the partnership underlying the labor migration scheme.
“The bilateral agreement between Georgia and Germany allows Georgian citizens to work in Germany’s agricultural sector seasonally. Such labor migration schemes are of great importance to Georgia and, in order to better understand migration outcomes for individuals and countries, under our study we will identify the costs and benefits throughout the migration process and how these are distributed among the actors involved. Moreover, in the course of the study the selected labor migration scheme from the perspectives of different stakeholders will be assessed, and the role of skills development will be discussed,” said Sopho Basilidze, Researcher at PMC Research Center.
