Middle Corridor Transit Cargo Flows: Georgia
Georgia holds a central position on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), a key transit route connecting Asia and Europe. This publication analyzes transit cargo flows through Georgia from 2018 to 2025, covering total transit volumes, Middle Corridor flows, road and rail comparison, and the infrastructure investments shaping the corridor’s capacity.
Main Findings
- Total transit through Georgia has more than doubled since 2018. From 2018 to 2025, total transit cargo flows through Georgia more than doubled, reaching 13.7 million tonnes. Cargo flows reached their peak in 2024, amounting to 15.1 million tonnes.
- The East–West route remains dominant. The East–West route remained the dominant transit path in 2025, with a 69.7% share of total transit cargo.
- Middle Corridor flows doubled since 2018. Transit cargo flows along the Middle Corridor through Georgia doubled between 2018 and 2025, reaching 4.6 million tonnes. The highest volume was recorded in 2022, at 5.0 million tonnes.
- Middle Corridor flows are concentrated in regional trade. The distribution of origins and destinations suggests that Middle Corridor transit in 2025 was driven mainly by regional trade rather than by long-distance China–Europe flows.
