The project aims to conduct value chain analysis of selected industries of Georgia to make sense of recent developments, tendencies, and needs, which together serve as a basis for the decision-making process of relevant public bodies, and will, in turn, strengthen the economic potential of the following targeted value chains:

  • Tourism: adventure/mountain; cultural; gastronomic (wine and culinary); catering; and accommodation;
  • Creative Industries: any type of media content production; post-production; and artisan;
  • Light Manufacturing: furniture and packaging; solid waste management and recycling; construction materials; personal protective equipment (PPE); and wooden toys (as a business activity under the furniture value chain);
  • Shared Intellectual Services:
  • Business Process Outsourcing (BPO): information technology; customer relationship management; architecture; design and engineering; finance and accounting; and human resources.
  • Cross-Cutting (Enablers):
  • Information and communications technology;
  • E-commerce; and
  • Transport and logistics.

PMC Research will undertake the following activities:

  • Collect industry-related data and analyze economic trends, challenges, and opportunities of each selected sector on a quarterly basis. The gathered data should be presented to Enterprise Georgia, various government agencies and ministries, private sector representatives, and the USAID Economic Security Program itself;
  • Analyze industry-related economic trends in regional and global contexts to identify challenges and potential opportunities for economic growth. The analytical process will consist of examining, collating, analyzing, interpreting, validating, and reporting results;
  • Improve capacity of BSOs within selected industries/value chains to collect and process industry-related quantitative and qualitative data, and to plan and implement research within their industries. This will be done by linking appropriate personnel from the BSOs (and potentially even government agencies) to the research team, and in some cases even embedding them in the process.

This project is being implemented by PMC Research, in association with ISET Policy Institute under the USAID Georgia Economic Security Program (GESP).
