Independent Dam Safety Assessment and Design & Author’s Supervision of Dams Safety Activities for Algeti & Sioni Dam

Project Description:

PMCG is working on a new project aiming to assess Sioni and Algeti dams’ safety in Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli regions of Georgia.

PMCG, as part of a consortium led by Temelsu, will assist state-owned company Georgian Amelioration LTD, which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture (MEPA).

The main objective of the project is to inspect the status of Algeti and Sioni dams, which feed Kvemo Samgori and Tbilisi-Kumisi irrigation systems, to evaluate their appurtenances and performance history, and to prepare dam safety assessment reports in accordance with World Bank policies.

PMCG, as part of a consortium led by Temelsu, under the World Bank project, will carry out the following activities:

• Implement the dam safety measures and procure equipment recommended in the assessment & review;
• Install an automated dam monitoring system;
• Establish an early warning system and draft the associated preparedness plan; and
• Provide capacity assessment of local authorities and training of operational and management staff in dam safety.

Ultimately, this project seeks to provide recommendations for remedial measures and safety-related measures to be taken, if needed, to upgrade these dams to an acceptable standard of safety.
