International Development: PMCG’s David Lelashvili Publishes Book on How Low- and Middle-Income Countries Develop

1.02.2021

We are proud to share that our affiliated consultant of many years, Mr. David Lelashvili, has published Understanding Development: How do Countries Develop?, a book that investigates development as a whole, the prospects of less-developed countries modernizing, the best paths for countries to take towards development, and the ways in which traditional societies evolve into more advanced societies of the type found in modern and developed countries.

“Each developing country in which I have worked is unique, yet they share a significant number of common features peculiar to developing countries. As I see it, pessimism towards the prospects of each country’s development is one of these features. I came across this in my 15 years of experiences (in low- and middle-income countries) where civil servants or the general population of those countries were very pessimistic about their respective countries’ development prospects. From my standpoint, one of the biggest drivers for this pessimism was limited knowledge with regards to two particular issues: what development actually is and how countries develop generally. This is why I attempted to answer these thought-provoking questions,” he said.

Mr. Lelashvili is an international development professional with the postgraduate degrees in economics, Global Political Economy and Development studies, public policy. He has consulted various governments across different countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

“I would like to congratulate David on the publication of his new book. He has quite a long and diverse practical experience in international development and I am glad that he has now reflected it in an academic format. I believe this book will serve as important material for the policy makers of transitional and developing countries,” said Mr. Aleksi Aleksishvili, Chairman and CEO at PMCG.
