Enhancing Regional Linkages between Trans-Caspian Corridor Countries

On May 22-23, Aleksi Aleksishvili, Chairman and CEO at PMCG, participated in the 4th Trans-Caspian Forum in Washington D.C.

The Trans-Caspian Forum is a strategically important regional integrator, which actively facilitates trade between Europe and Asia. It covers the Trans-Caspian Trade and Transit Corridor linking Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey in the west, with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in the east.

This forum gathered government officials and business leaders from Trans-Caspian corridor countries, and the USA, with the purpose of discussing opportunities and challenges in enhancing their strategic engagement, and identifying new business, trade and investment opportunities.

“In the countries of land-locked Central Asia and Caucasus, there is the willingness and ability among neighbors to take action on critical issues that affect us all and this can facilitate development for each such country and increase the welfare of their citizens,” explained Aleksishvili.

Moreover, he emphasized the importance of PMCG’s work in fostering cooperation in the region, and in so doing presented the example of our USAID-funded program “Competitive Trade and Jobs (CTJ)” project, which aims to increase the competitiveness of Central Asian economies in order to boost exports in horticulture and improve transport and logistics sectors that operate regionally, reducing the time and cost of trading across borders and creating or maintaining jobs.

The event was organized by the Caspian Policy Center and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce together with the Embassies of Georgia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
