The overall objective of the project is to “enable a legal environment that will promote freedom of expression, competitiveness and sustainability of the media market, through the harmonization of the media legislation with the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (EU)2018/1808.”
In line with the overall objectives, specific objectives are being redefined or expanded to kickstart the stalled media reform processes in the country.
As part of this project, PMCG is conducting the following activities:
- Assessing the legal, institutional, and operational framework;
- Conducting a content/gap analysis with regard to the EU acquis and international standards of media legislation;
- Drafting amendments to the legal framework; and
- Organizing a series of consultations, public debates, and/or working meetings with stakeholders to support the harmonization of laws and increase their understanding about proposed improvements of laws encompassing the work of the media.
