On April 11, Aleksi Aleksishvili, Chairman and CEO at PMCG, participated in the IMF Spring Meetings Seminar “Curbing Corruption by Improving Economic Governance in the Middle East and Central Asia.”

The main goal of the seminar was to identify key areas of economic governance weakness in countries in the Middle East and Central Asia and to discuss policies to address them.

Together with other panelists - Sarah Chayes, author of “Thieves of State: Why Corruption Threatens Global Security” and Sawsan Gharaibeh, Co-Founder at Rasheed (Transparency International, Jordan) - Aleksishvili covered the main factors enabling success in curbing corruption and shared his experience in this field, presenting the example of Georgia’s successful anti-corruption reform.

“Emerging from our experience of fighting corruption, we concluded that it’s possible to eliminate corruption. The main challenges and cornerstones of achieving success are establishing political willingness, having a small government and creating a good business environment,” explained Aleksishvili.

The seminar was opened by Tao Zhang, Deputy Managing Director at IMF, and was moderated by Minouche Shafik, Director at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
